A Genius EV solution for York hostel
A tourist hostel in York can now add EV charging to the facilities it can offer its guests, with the installation of two new EO GENIUS 7.2kW sockets. The two charging stations in the car parking area at the Astor Hostel, a Grade II listed building close to the historic town centre, were supplied by Replenishh and fitted by George Hunt, Director of Downtown Electrical Contractors.

A family run business based in Leeds, Downtown has added electric vehicle charging to its range of commercial, industrial and domestic work. The Astor installation is just one of a number of recent EV charging installations the company has completed. “The charging points for the Astor Hostel installation are post mounted and fed by individual cables via underground ducting, across a parameter wall and through the cellar to a mains room,” said George. “This is where we installed two separate mini consumer units for isolation, taking from spare circuits in the existing mains panel.”

The charging stations were required as part of a change in use of the premises from a hotel to a tourist hostel, but as the hostel manager Alex Rivers has said, "we would have done this anyway, as part of our drive to become more sustainable and encourage people to arrive with greener transport. George and the team from Downtown Electrical were very professional and helpful throughout the whole process. They managed the project, and met all the deadlines that were required, and we are very happy with our EV Charging station."

Why did Downtown choose Replenishh as their supplier?

Downtown were already an approved installer for EO Charging, but Replenishh has now become his main supplier of EO products. “After meeting with Jim Rugg [Head of Replenishh] we felt Replenishh’s views and goals on the EV charging industry were very similar to our own. On top of this we were impressed with the service, delivery and information available.”

George installed his first EV point around two years ago and sees it as an area with huge growth potential. “We have only recently decided to focus on the EV industry more as we feel there is a big future there. With all the developments going on, such as the 2040 deadline on new petrol and diesel car sales, the market can only grow so we will be focusing a considerable part of our marketing purely on the EV side of the business.”

“We are delighted to be working as George’s EV charging supplier,” said Jim Rugg. “What this demonstrates is that we can provide installers with competitively priced EO and Schneider Electric charging products for all kinds of projects, from heavy and light commercial projects to domestic premises. George is doing several EV installs each week which just goes to show how quickly the charging infrastructure is growing.”

Replenishh supplies charging stations by Schneider Electric and EO, and provides training courses to help OLEV-approved electrical contractors specify, install and maintain these units.
